The Lake Forest College men's tennis team hosted and defeated Cornell College 7-2 on Saturday in the final match of the regular season for both squads. Forester senior Jerry Wang won 6-2, 6-1 at #6 singles in the final home match of his career.
Wang was recognized and presented with a photo plaque during the introduction of lineups before his Senior Day match. His singles match was the last to finish and closed out the home team's 7-2 triumph.
Lake Forest jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches. Junior Anthony Warren and freshman Ellis Lora-Arceo were the first to complete their match, an 8-4 triumph at #1. Juniors Anthony Mykhaylovskyy and Derek Schaltz followed with an 8-6 triumph at #3 and the #2 team of freshman Dragan Trivanovic and sophomore John Snider completed the sweep by coming out on top of a 9-7 decision.
Warren was forced to retire during his match at #1 singles but the Foresters regained their three-point lead when Mykhaylovskyy finished off a 6-2, 6-3 victory at #5. The Rams earned their final point of the match at #2 singles but a 6-1, 6-3 win at #4 by Snider clinched the Lake Forest victory. Trivanovic added a hard-fought 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 triumph at #3 and Wang closed things out with his win at #6.
The Foresters will take a 13-12 overall record into next Friday's four-team Midwest Conference Tournament in Madison, Wisconsin, and take on Grinnell College in the semifinals. Cornell finished the year 10-13.
