The Forester men's soccer team won 2-0 at Illinois College on Sunday. Lake Forest finished the league portion of its 2012 schedule with a 9-1-0 record to capture the 15th Midwest Conference title in program history and earn the right to host the four-team MWC Tournament November 2-3.
Sunday's game was scoreless until freshman Dylan Hartman connected on his sixth goal of the season at 74:44. His brother Jordan Hartman assisted on the score.
Lake Forest all but clinched the victory with 6:54 on the clock when freshman Themis Mourikes scored his second goal of the year. Junior Mahir Mameledzija earned an assist on the play and is now tied to 11th in program history with 16 career assists.
Forester senior goalkeeper Ethan Guenther recorded four saves in his seventh shutout this season. He improved to 10-1-1 with a 0.36 goals against average and .911 save percentage this year.
The visitors had a 15-1 advantage in shots in the first half and a 14-6 edge in the final 45 minutes.
Lake Forest is now 13-3-1 overall while the Blue Boys fell to 7-6-3 overall and 2-4-2 in league play.
The Foresters will close out the regular season against visiting University of Wisconsin-Whitewater next Sunday at 1:30 p.m. It will be Senior Day and Guenther, Giancarlo Colasanti, and Garrett Donnelly will be honored before their final regular season home game.
