The Forester men's soccer team defeated Concordia University 4-0 at home on Monday. Lake Forest junior Mahir Mameledzija scored twice in the game and is the fourth player in program history to reach 100 career points.
Mameledzija, who entered the week leading the country with 32 points and tied for the national lead with 15 goals, scored the game's first goal 18 minutes and 22 seconds into the contest. His seventh game-winner of the season was assisted by junior Steven Johnson and sophomore Stefan Zaharinov.
Junior Alexi Spiratos doubled the Forester lead at 32:43 with freshman Themis Mourikes picking up the assist. It was the first goal of the season for Spiratos.
Mameledzija netted his 17th goal of the season eight-and-a-half minutes into the second half. Spiratos assisted on Mameledzija's 43rd career goal, tying him with Forester Athletic Hall of Famer Rob Samuels (1992-95) for second place in program history. It also gave him 100 career points, which ranks fourth in team annals behind Tony Mulert (101 from 1979-82), Samuels (108), and Bryan Porto (142 from 1967-70).
The final goal of the contest was the third of the year for freshman Sakhile Nkambule, who took a long pass from sophomore Charlie Brey and beat the Cougar goalie.
Forester senior goalkeeper Ethan Guenther recorded two saves while blanking Concordia Chicago for the game's first 59:30. Sophomore Ian Taylor held the Cougars scoreless for the final 30:30.
Lake Forest raised its recod on the season to 8-2-1. Concordia Chicago fell to 1-8-2.
The Foresters will resume Midwest Conference play at St. Norbert College Friday night at 7:30.
