Freshman James Johnson tied for fifth as an individual and Lake Forest was fifth as a team at the Shenandoah University Spring Fling on Thursday and Friday.
Johnson followed up Thursday's round of 80 with a 74 on Friday to climb eight places in the standings. He birdied three holes on day two, including two of the four par-5s.
Lake Forest's other four players at the event were also freshmen. Jack Dwyer was next on the team and 11th out of 54 players overall, carding a 77 in the second round after matching Johnson's 80 in the first. His only birdie at the event came on the par-4 ninth on Friday. Connor Lindley birdied birdied the par-5 eighth and par-4 10th on Thursday, finished in three on the par-4 17th in round two, and tied for 24th at 162. Anthony Scaletta, who was 32nd with a score of 165, made a pair of birdie putts on seven and finished the par-3 sixth in two shots on Friday. Carlos Garcia Bodini tied for 46th at 176 and also had three birdies, needing just three shots on holes 10 and 18 on Thursday and 16 on Friday.
The Foresters posted scores of 316 on Thursday and 322 on Friday to place fifth out of 10 teams at 638. Swarthmore College and Hampden-Sydney College tied for first at 624 with Hampden-Sydney winning the tiebreaker.
Lake Forest's next scheduled event is Knox College's Jim Wetherbee Memorial Invitational March 28-29.
