Junior Davis DeKorte is now the individual leader and the Lake Forest College men's golf team moved to within five shots of first-place St. Norbert College during Friday's second round of the 2017 Midwest Conference Championship Tournament.
DeKorte shot a 77 for the second day in a row on the 6,615-yard par-72 course at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois. He entered the day tied for fourth place and two shots off the lead but tied for Friday's lowest round with two players, including fellow Forester junior Durham Ghelfi. Ghelfi's two-day score of 161 ranks ninth in the 35-player field. Lake Forest has four of the top 16 players going into Saturday's final round with sophomore Ricky Schmidt in fouth place at 159 and freshman Jacob Krugman tied for 14th at 164.
Forester sophomore Parker Hill posted a score of 85 on Friday, three shots better than Thursday's opening round, and is tied for 23rd place overall. Fellow sophomore Elijah Collins posted a 92 on Friday and his 179 puts him in 29th place.
Lake Forest's four-man score of 318 was the best in the six-team field on Friday, one shot ahead of Monmouth College and four better than first-place St. Norbert College, which leads the team standings with a two-day score of 633. The Foresters are at 638 and Monmouth at 645. Illinois College is in fourth place at 661, Knox College fifth at 694, and Grinnell sixth at 700.
Saturday's final round will begin at 10:00 a.m.
