The Forester men's golf team placed eighth at the two-day St. Norbert Invitational over the weekend. Freshman Durham Ghelfi led Lake Forest with a round of 82 on Sunday and he tied for 33rd place overall in the tournament.
Ghelfi birdied both of the par-5s on the back nine on Sunday and shot a 38 on that half of the course. His 82 for the day was 11 strokes better than his round on Saturday. It was his fourth-team-best placing of the year.
Fellow freshmen Jeremy Edelson and Matthew Pochowicz were next on the team with a two-day total of 180, five strokes behind Ghelfi. Edelson and Pochowicz each shot an 85 on Saturday and a 95 on Sunday. With rounds of 94 and 92, freshman Jacob Soyka was the team's fourth scorer at the event.
Carthage College won the tournament with a two-day score of 612, 13 shots better than St. Norbert. Lake Forest posted a score of 721 to edge out Lawrence University by four strokes for eighth place.
The Foresters will take on St. Norbert, Lawrence, and the rest of the Midwest Conference at next weekend's MWC Championship Tournament at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois. The three-day competition will begin on Thursday at 11:00 a.m.
