The Lake Forest College men's golf team began its first season in 44 years by placing 13th at Carthage College's Tim Kopka Memorial Invitational over the weekend. The Foresters' score of 326 on Saturday was 12 strokes better than Friday's total and moved them up a spot in the standings.
Senior Mcauley Banning was the Foresters' top player in the two-day event with a score of 162 on the par-71 course. He carded an 80 on Saturday and tied for 50th place overall.
Lake Forest's best round of the tournament was turned in by freshman Davis DeKorte. His round of 78 on Saturday gave him a two-day total of 169.
Forester senior Charlie Stein had an 84 both days and classmate David Grannis also finished tied-for-66th with a score of 168. Freshman Christopher Rockers was a shot back and tied with DeKorte for 70th place at 169. Senior Luke Swardenski tied for 78th at 175.
Lake Forest will compete in the Wisconsin Lutheran Fall Invitational next Sunday and Monday.
