Lake Forest College men's basketball player Mike Rueffer (far left in photo) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after helping lead the team to three victories in the previous seven days.
Rueffer was named the Most Valuable Player at last Thursday and Friday's Thrivent Financial Tournament at California Lutheran University. The senior guard scored a team-high 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from three-point range in the Foresters' 66-51 win over Luther College in the semifinals. He also finished with seven rebounds and a game-high seven assists in the contest. Lake Forest defeated Cal Lutheran 90-86 in the championship game and Rueffer shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and finished with 16 points.
The Foresters resumed Midwest Conference play with a 76-71 triumph at Monmouth College on Wednesday. Rueffer played 38 minutes in the contest, scored seven points, and dished out a game-high six assists.
Rueffer is averaging 8.3 points per game and shooting 48.4 percent from three-point range this season. He ranks seventh in the conference with 3.5 assists per game and third in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8).
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Rueffer also earned the award once last season.
