Loss at Grinnell is just the Third of the Year for the Foresters

The Lake Forest College men's basketball team was defeated 112-101 at Grinnell College on Saturday. Senior post player Travis Clark recorded another double-double for the Foresters, who fell to 20-3 overall and finished the regular season with a first-place Midwest Conference record of 16-2.

Clark shot 11-for-13 from the field and 6-for-6 from the foul line while leading all players in the game with 32 points and 11 rebounds. He also added two steals and a blocked shot.

Four other Foresters scored in double figures. Senior forwards Nate Bateman, Drew Grennell, and Dayton Young had 14, 12, and 10 points, respectively, and sophomore guard James Stack finished with 11. Young pulled down seven rebounds and junior point guard Jeff Beck dished out seven assists and added three steals.

Lake Forest shot 57.4 percent from the floor and made five of 15 three-pointers and 18 of 25 free throws. Grinnell shot 43.2 percent from the field, including a 14-for-50 performance from beyond the arc, and knocked down 22 of 26 foul shots. The Foresters had a 47-41 edge in rebounds but committed 27 turnovers to the Pioneers' 16.

Grinnell jumped out to an 18-6 lead after less than five minutes of play and took a 62-41 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The margin reached as many as 27 points in the second half.

The Pioneers raised their overall record to 18-4 and finished second in the MWC standings with a 14-4 mark in league play.

Lake Forest will host next weekend's MWC Tournament and take on Carroll University in Friday's 5:00 p.m. semifinal. Grinnell will face St. Norbert College at 7:30 p.m. and the winners will compete for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
