Posted: Feb 25, 2021
Women's basketball player Kelsey Burton was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday, two days after scoring a career-high 30 points in an 82-80 triumph over Dominican University.
Burton had 11 points and five rebounds in the fourth quarter alone as the Foresters held off the Stars for their first victory of the young season. The senior guard shot 11-for-16 from the field and also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, dished out five assists, and added a block and a steal on the night.
Already ranked among the top 10 in program history in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and three-pointers before the season began, Burton has continued her climb up those lists. On Tuesday she moved into third place in points (1,131) and sixth in rebounds (581) while continuing to rank third in three-pointers (101), eighth in steals (153), and 10th in assists (216).
After three games this season Burton leads the Foresters with 16.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Burton also earned the award last week and on two other occasions in her career.
