The Lake Forest College women's basketball team began its abbreviated 2021 season with a 73-50 loss to visiting Milwaukee School of Engineering Tuesday night. It was the first competition of the academic year for any Forester team.
Senior guard Kelsey Burton led the home team with 13 points and a dozen rebounds. It was the 18th career double-double for Burton, who was honored on the court before the contest for scoring her 1,000th career point late last season.
Sophomore guard Katie Neher was the only other Forester to score in double figures, finishing with 12 points and accounting for half of her team's four three-pointers on the night. Senior forward Delaney Sjong added nine points and junior forward Maggie Kersting chipped in with seven.
Lake Forest shot just 31.7 percent from the field while the Raiders finished at 44.4 percent. The visitors also outscored the Forester 21-12 from three-point range and 10-8 at the foul line. Rebounds were even at 41 apiece.
MSOE scored the game's first eight points and led 15-8 at the end of the first period. The margin grew to 11 (33-22) at halftime and the Raiders increased their advantage to 60-39 after three quarters.
The next contest on the Foresters' six-game schedule will be played at Concordia University Wisconsin Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
