Diver Heath Ogawa was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for the third time this season after earning All-American honors at last weekend's NCAA Division III Championships.
Ogawa, a freshman, placed 13th in last Wednesday's 3-meter competition with 440.80 points and eighth in Friday's 1-meter event with a score of 419.35. He earned 448.15 points in Friday's trials to earn a spot in that evening's Championship Final.
The top eight finishers in each event are named All-American by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America while the next eight are considered Honorable Mention All-Americans. Ogawa is the first member of the Forester men's team to finish in the top eight since Dan Tarkowski was seventh in the 100-freestyle in 1996 and the program's first male diver to compete in the national meet since Guy Stehley in 1980. Tarkowski and Stehley are both members of the Lake Forest College Athletics Hall of Fame.
Ogawa finished his first season with program records in both 6-dive and 11-dive formats off both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. In addition, his score in Friday's 1-meter trials was one of five he posted this year that exceeded the previous team record.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletics Department on Thursdays. Ogawa also earned the award on January 21 and March 3.
