Swimmer Orion Huey was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for his performance at the Midwest Conference Championship Meet the previous weekend.
Huey, a junior, started the meet's first night of finals by anchoring Lake Forest's 200-freestyle relay to a narrow victory and a time of 1:25.05, which ranks third in program history. He was also the runner-up to teammate Sam Freedberg in the 200-IM, his only individual event of the day, and his time of 1:54.26 moved him up a spot to third in program history. Huey closed out Friday's competition by swimming the butterfly leg of the Foresters' 400-medley relay, which captured the conference title in 3:27.44, which is also the third-fastest time in team history.
Huey's success continued on Saturday, beginning with another championship, this time in the 200-medley relay. Huey swam the butterfly leg again and the team's time of 1:34.73 ranks second in team annals. He later claimed his first individual title of the weekend by winning the 100-butterfly in 51.87 seconds, which ranks him fifth in school history.
The 2015 MWC champion in the 200-backstroke, Huey successfully defended that title on Sunday with a program record and NCAA Division III B-cut qualifying time of 1:51.29. He then closed out the meet by anchoring the Foresters' 400-freestyle relay team. Lake Forest trailed by .77 seconds before the final leg but he chased down the leader with a split of 46.07 seconds to give the team a .14-second victory. Their time of 3:08.89 ranks third in team history.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
