Softball player Shaye Gauthier was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after helping Lake Forest win three of four games over the weekend and clinch a spot in this Saturday's Midwest Conference Championship.
Gauthier was 1-for-3 in Saturday's 3-1 game one win over visiting St. Norbert College. Another victory in game two would clinch the top spot in the MWC North Division standings and Gauthier played a major role in the 13-2 five-inning triumph. The senior struck out five batters in as many innings in the circle and went 3-for-3 with a double and a home run at the plate. It was her fifth multi-hit performance this season as the Foresters' starting pitcher.
Having already secured a spot in the championship series, Lake Forest split a doubleheader at Lawrence University on Sunday. Gauthier turned in her third four-hit game of the year in game two, raising her batting average on the season to .392.
Gauthier is now 18-6 with a 2.85 ERA as a pitcher over the last four years and owns a .362 career batting average with a .416 on-base percentage and .506 slugging percentage.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Department of Athletics on Thursdays. Gauthier also earned the award once during her sophomore season.
