The Forester men's soccer team hosted and defeated Concordia University Chicago 4-0 on Monday in the team's first game on the artificial turf of the newly-renovated Mohr Field.
The team's first goal on the new field was scored by senior midfielder Joao Godoy on a penalty kick seven minutes into the contest. The kick was awarded to the home team after junior defender Connor Keast was fouled just inside the left side of the box.
Godoy also accounted for the game's second goal at the 38:08, taking a cross from junior Erik Truitt at the top of the box and sending it in for his 15th career score.
Sid Babu extended the Foresters' lead to three goals at the 52:11 mark. Junior defender Griffin Mitchell sent a line drive pass from nearly midfield toward the middle of the pitch, where Godoy deflected it in front of Babu and the senior forward netted his second career score.
The final tally as the second of the season for Truitt. Keast started the play by racing up the left side of the field and crossing the ball back toward the top of the box. Junior midfielder Frank Janicke Permanyer deflected it and Truitt blasted it into the right side of the goal.
For the second time in three days, three Forester goalkeepers shared a shutout. Senior Jan Roessler and the rest of the Lake Forest defense prevented the Cougars from attempting a shot in the game's first 45 minutes. Freshman Szymon Mocarski and sophomore Giuseppe Scalera split the second half and neither was forced to make a save.
The Foresters outshot their guests 19-1 in the contest and improved to 2-0-0 on the season. Concordia Chicago fell to 0-6-1.
Lake Forest will be in action again on Saturday, hosting Knox College at 2:00 p.m. on Farwell Field.
