The Forester men's soccer team, ranked 10th in this week's NSCAA regional rankings, defeated visiting Grinnell College 1-0 in the semifinals of the 2012 Midwest Conference Tournament on Friday. Junior Nicholas Kliminski scored the game's only goal with 26 minutes remaining in the contest. Lake Forest will host Carroll University in the final Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Kliminski's goal was his fifth of the season and was assisted by fellow junior Mahir Mameledzija, who raised his single-season school record total for points to 59.
Lake Forest senior goalkeeper Ethan Guenther made five saves in the contest and recorded his eighth shutout and 10th scoreless start of the year. He is now 11-1-1 with a 0.39 goals against average and .909 save percentage this season.
Both teams attempted four shots in the first half and the Foresters had a 5-3 advantage in the second.
Lake Forest's second 1-0 victory over Grinnell this season gave the Foresters a 15-3-1 overall record while the Pioneers finished the year at 9-8-1.
Carroll University, the second seed in the tournament, defeated Beloit College, the #3 seed, 3-2 in the other semifinal at Waukegan SporstPark. Lake Forest will host Carroll in the tournament final Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
