Forester freshman defensive back Ed Dobernig was named Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after picking off a pair of fourth quarter passes and returning one for a touchdown in the team's 35-14 victory over Lawrence University on Saturday.
Lake Forest jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead but surrendered a pair of touchdowns in the third period. Lawrence trailed 21-14 but was driving early in the fourth quarter when Dobernig intercepted a Viking pass at the Forester 19-yardline.
The Foresters led 28-14 in the final two minutes when Dobernig picked off another Lawrence pass and returned it 39 yards for the game-clinching touchdown.
Dobernig also recorded five tackles in the game, including four solos. The interceptions were his second and third of the season.
