Senior Mansur Soeleman was one of five Lake Forest men to place in the top 15 as the team won the Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday. The Forester women placed fifth in the 13-team field.
The women's 5-kilometer race was first and Forester freshman Yaneli Guajardo finished fifth out of 148 runners in her collegiate debut. Her time of 19:55.6 ranks 21st in program history. Sophomore Lauren Giurini was next on the team and 18th overall in 20:37.3 while classmate Ashley Canner placed 23rd in 20:53.9. Freshman Molly Gniady completed the course in 21:16.2, which was good for 34th place, and junior Emily Staufer rounded out the Foresters' top five in 51st with a time of 21:48.4.
On the men's side senior Jonathan Stern finished third in the 114-runner field with a 4-mile time of 21:02.5. Junior Jorge Villanueve was sixth in 21:27.4 and Soeleman placed 11th in 21:36.3. Sophomore Philip Wilson finished four on the team and 14th overall in 21:43.6 and junior Christian Aldana was the next runner to cross the finish line, completing the course in 21:54.9
The meet was hosted by St. Norbert College, who won the women's race with 31 points. Carroll University was second (59 points), the College of St. Scholastica third (64), and Lawrence University fourth (110). Lake Forest's 124 points were 41 points better than the sixth-place team.
The Forester men finished with just 49 points while St. Norbert placed second with 76.
The next event on Lake Forest's scedule is the Forester Invitational on Friday, September 15. The meet will be held at Foss Park Golf Course in North Chicago, Illinois.
