Lake Forest College cross country runner Jonathan Stern was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for his record-setting performance at last Saturday's Midwest Conference Championships.
Stern, a senior and the team's top runner in four of five meets this season, broke the school record with a time of 25:39.5 and placed seventh out of 113 runners in the race. His time was nearly 26 seconds faster than the previous program record and his place at the conference meet was also the best in the team history. Lake Forest finished third in the meet, two places better than a year ago.
Stern and junior Jorge Villanueva, the program's previous 8K record-holder and ninth-place finisher on Saturday, became the first runners in team history to earn All-MWC honors three times in their careers. In addition, Stern owns 10 of the 22 fastest times since the rebirth of the program in 1995.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
