The Lake Forest College volleyball team was defeated 25-13, 25-17, 25-19 at Ripon College on Saturday in the Foresters' final match of the year. Junior middle blocker Brittany Avonts recorded her school record-setting 137th block of the season in the second set.
Avonts entered the contest tied with Nicole Baich for the most blocks in a season with 136 and took over sole possession of first place in that category. She also had five kills in nine attempts on Saturday and finished her third season with a .325 hitting percentage in her career, the highest mark in team history.
Freshman outside hitter Grace Larson led the visitors with 10 kills against Ripon and 239 on the year. Sophomore setter Tori Tinman had a team-high 16 assists and freshman setter Mallory Krzysciak led the squad with eight digs.
Lake Forest jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening set but was outscored 24-8 the rest of the way.
Set two was tied at 13 before a 12-4 run by Ripon gave the home team a two-sets-to-none advantage in the match.
A 10-3 run early in the third set gave the Red Hawks a lead they would not relinquish. Neither team strung together more than three points in a row the rest of the set and Ripon was able to close out the match.
Lake Forest finished the season 9-17 overall and 5-5 in Midwest Conference play. Ripon heads into next weekend's four-team MWC Tournament with an overall record of 12-12 and a league mark of 9-1.
