The Forester women's soccer team hosted and defeated Dominican
University 5-1 on Tuesday (October 20) to raise its record on the
year to 8-6-0. The Stars fell to 7-7-0.
After playing to a scoreless tie at Dominican last year, Lake
Forest got on the scoreboard quickly in this meeting. Junior Bianca Greene's (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) corner kick caromed
off the Dominican goalie and into the goal less than two minutes
into the contest. It was her second goal of the year.
The Foresters doubled their lead on sophomore Isabel Brown's
(Tucson, Ariz./Tucson Magnet) first goal of the season at 12:40.
Freshman Becky Esrock's (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield School) passed
the ball to classmate Lisa Sorensen (Muskegon, Mich./Western
Michigan Christian) in the left side of the box and Sorenson's
cross passed the goalie and met Brown's foot just in front of the
goal line. The lead grew to 3-0 at 29:25 after a corner kick was
passed around in front of the goal by Sorensen and sophomore Mira Trebilcock (South Porcupine, Ontario/Trinity College School), who
were both credited with assists on freshman Amanda Greco's (Savoy,
Ill./Champaign Central) third goal of the year.
The Stars scored their only goal of the contest just 76 seconds
later and the Foresters led 3-1 at halftime.
Esrock received a pass from Sorensen, kicked the ball to the left
of a defender while passing her on the right, dribbled past the
goalie and then scored from a nearly impossible angle just four
minutes into the second period. It was Esrock's team-high 14th goal
of the year and Sorensen's third assist of the game. Sorensen then
closed out the scoring at 64:35 after freshman Olivia Davis (Aspen,
Colo./Aspen) got a foot on a loose ball in front of the Dominican
goal and sent it her way. It was Sorensen's 12th goal of 2009.
Lake Forest freshman goalkeeper Bri Schleibinger (Spring Grove,
Ill./Richmond Burton) needed just one save to earn the victory and
drop her goals against average to 1.81.
The Foresters outshot the Stars 20-6 in the contest.
Lake Forest will play a pair of Midwest Conference games this
weekend (October 24-25). The Foresters will host Grinnell College
at 10:00 Saturday morning in a game that can be seen live at
www.pennatlantic.com.
The team will then travel to Beloit College on Sunday for a 1:00
p.m. contest.
