Lake Forest Falls to Nation's #7 Team in Forester Tip-Off Tourney Final

Lake Forest Falls to Nation's #7 Team in Forester Tip-Off Tourney Final

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 66-51 by Washington University-St. Louis in the championship game of the Forester Tip-Off Tournament. Junior forward Liz Radtke led the home team with 15 points and was one of two Foresters named to the all-tournament team.

Radtke shot 5-for-7 from the field, knocked down one of two three-pointers, and made all four of her free throws in the contest she also pulled down six rebounds. Freshman forward Rose Coll was next on the team with a dozen points and she added three assists. Junior guard Sam Schuring, who joined Radtke on the Forester Tip-Off All-Tournament Team, grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and led all players in the game with four assists.

Lake Forest made just one-third of field goal attempts while Washington University shot 32.4 percent from the floor. The teams combined to make only 11 of 39 three-pointers. The Bears had a significant edge in free throws, making 16 of 23 foul shots to the Foresters 6-of-6. The home team out-rebounded its guests 39-34 but committed 17 turnovers, four more than they forced.

Radtke scored nine points as the Foresters jumped out to a 13-9 lead. The lead changed hands six times in the first half, which ended with the Bears ahead 35-29.

Radtke scored six straight points early in the second half to pull the home team to within two points (39-37). Lake Forest would get no closer, however, as Washington University went on a 15-5 run to increase the margin to 12 with 7:43 to play. A three-pointer by sophomore guard/forward Gina Ambrose trimmed the deficit to nine points with 1:53 left but the Bears made all six of their free throws down to stretch to clinch the victory.

Lake Forest fell to 1-1 while Washington University, the nation's seventh-ranked team, remained undefeated after three games.

The Foresters will play on the road for the first time this season next Tuesday at the University of Chicago. Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m.
