Lake Forest College swimmer Ally McCarthy was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday for her performance at the Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular at Kalamazoo College on Saturday.
McCarthy was the top distance swimmer in the meet, finishing first in the 1000-freestyle and 500-freestyle. The junior completed the longer of the two events more than 11 seconds before the runner-up with a time of 11:03.19. She then won the 500 in 5:24.19, more than seven seconds before the next competitor.
The Forester women finished second at the meet, the team's highest placing at the annual event in 25 years.
McCarthy was also named Forester Athlete of the Week earlier on Tuesday.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information directors. It was the second time McCarthy has earned the award in her career.
