Sally Snarski was named First Team All-Great Lakes Region and four other Forester softball players were also listed as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its All-Region Teams this week.
Snarski, a senior first baseman, batted .363 this season with 10 doubles, a team-high-tying seven home runs, and 27 runs batted in. She finished her four seasons ranked second in program history with 26 home runs and a .665 slugging percentage, third with a .481 on-base percentage, seventh with 102 RBI and 238 total bases, and ninth with 135 hits and a .377 batting average. She also set a team record by drawing 70 walks in her three years on the team. Snarski earned First Team All-Region honors this season after being a Second Team selection in 2015.
Senior pitcher Jessi Werner was one of three Second Team honorees this year. She won 14 consecutive decisions from April 3 to May 14 and finished the season 18-5 with a 2.27 earned run average and 160 strikeouts in 151 innings of work. Werner, whose 580 career strikeouts are a Midwest Conference record, also owns team records with 60 victories (against 26 losses), 56 complete games, 18 shutouts, three no-hitters, five saves, and 554 innings pitched. She was a First Team Great Lakes Region selection a year ago.
Senior catcher Alex Hemmer joined Werner on the Second Team in 2016 after earning Third Team honors last season. Hemmer led the Foresters with a .397 average, .471 on-base percentage, .664 slugging percentage, 37 runs scored, 52 base hits, and 13 doubles. She completed her career ranked third in team annals in home runs (23) and total bases (273); fourth in hits (161), slugging percentage (.615), and runs batted in (113); fifth in at-bats (444); sixth in runs (106) and doubles (31); and tied-for-10th in triples (6).
The Second Team selection of junior pitcher Jenny McTague made Lake Forest the only team in the region with multiple hurlers listed that high. McTague was 12-8 with three saves, 93 strikeouts, and a pair of no-hitters in 2016. With a year to play, she already ranks second in program history with 302 strikeouts, third with 41 victories, fourth with 375.2 innings pitched and 10 shutouts, tied-for-fifth with 34 complete games and her 1.99 earned run average is the third-lowest in team annals. McTague also earned Second Team All-Region honors as a freshman in 2014.
Kaleigh Ambrose, a senior third baseman, was a Third Team honoree this season after being named to the Second Team in 2015. She hit .347 on the year with eight doubles, two home runs, 20 runs scored, and 24 driven in. Ambrose's 19 career homers rank tied-for-sixth in team history and her 96 runs batted in are ninth. She also finished among the top 10 in school history with 199 career assists.
Lake Forest posted a 30-14 overall record in 2016 and claimed the program's third consecutive MWC championship with an 18-2 mark in league play. The Foresters made their eighth NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in the last 15 years and reached the regional championship for the third straight season.
