The Lake Forest College men's golf team posted its best round of the spring on Friday and completed the two-day Augustana Invitational on Saturday in 16th place.
The Foresters' 310 in round one had them in ninth place in the 25-team field. With a 316 on Saturday, however, they were passed by seven schools and settled for 16th.
Webster University won the event with a two-day total of 584, eight shots better than runner-up University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Junior Jack Dwyer was Lake Forest's top player for the third time in as many events this spring. He carded a 2-under 70, matching the best round of his collegiate career, on Friday and led all 138 players in the tournament with five birdies on the day. A 78 on Saturday left him in a tie for ninth place overall. Dwyer's opening round score ranks tied-for-sixth in team history while his 148 for the weekend is tied-for-10th.
Fellow junior James Johnson was next on the team and tied-for-45th in the field with a 36-hole score of 155. He had a pair of birdies in both of his rounds.
The Foresters' best score on Saturday came from sophomore Ryan Higgins, who fired a 77 to close to within two shots of Johnson at 157 for the tournament.
Junior Carlos Garcia-Bodini and sophomore Tyler Nielsen were each at 169 for the weekend.
Lake Forest will host the annual Forester Invite next Friday at 9:00. The one-day event will be played at White Deer Run Golf Club in nearby Vernon Hills, and will be followed on the team's schedule by Saturday's Wisconsin Lutheran Spring Invitational in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
