The Lake Forest College men's basketball team routed host
Monmouth College 72-50 Tuesday night (February 16). The was the
Foresters' seventh straight victory and raised their overall record
on the season to 13-9 and Midwest Conference mark to 11-4. The
Fighting Scots fell to 5-17 overall and 4-11 in league play.
Sophomore post player Travis Clark
(Evanston, Ill./Evanston) and freshman guard Jeff Beck
(Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown) each reached double figures in both
points and rebounds in the contest. Clark led all players in the
game with 23 points and 13 rebounds for his league-high 12th
double-double of 2009-10. He also leads the MWC in field goal
percentage and shot 10-for-14 from the field and added three
assists, two blocked shots, and a steal. Beck scored a career-high
17 points and pulled down 10 boards for his first first career
double-double. He shot 7-for-10 from the floor and made three of
four three-pointers. Senior forward Patrick Hanley (Plainfield,
Ill./Plainfield) led the visitors with four assists and is now just
10 assists shy of the program's career record of 337 set by Lee
Taylor in 2003.
Lake Forest shot 46.8 percent from the field while holding Monmouth
to 32.2 percent. The Foresters out-rebounded the Fighting Scots
49-27 and now average nearly 10 more rebounds per game than their
opponents this year.
A Clark layup with 8:36 to play in the opening period broke a 23-23
tie and started a 9-2 run that put the Foresters ahead for good.
Lake Forest increased the margin to eight points (40-32) at
halftime.
An 11-2 run to start the second half gave the visitors a 17-point
lead and the margin was no less than 14 points the rest of the
way.
The Foresters will host Illinois College in both teams' regular
season finale Saturday afternoon (February 20) at 3:00. A victory
on Senior Day and Alumni Day would give Lake Forest its longest
winning streak in 10 years. A live video webcast of the game will
be available at pennatlantic.com. In
addition, the College will be hosting its annual
"Playing for a Cure" event to raise money
for the American Cancer Society.
