Dugas and DeSardi Place Second at I.H.A. Doubles Tourney

The Foresters competed at the Illinois Handball Association Doubles Tournament over the weekend. Lake Forest's top finish was a runner-up performance by senior Maria Dugas and junior Amalia DeSardi (pictured) in the Women's Open Division.

Seeded second at the event, Dugas and DeSardi had a quarterfinal round bye and defeated senior Ann Szutenbach and sophomore Samantha Zender 21-1, 21-3 in the quarrterfinals. They then fell 21-3, 21-6 to Megan and Terry Mehilos in the championship match.

Junior Isaac Acosta and freshman C.J. Laffey reached the quarterfinals in the Men's Open Division before falling to the top seed and eventual champion.

It was an all Lake Forest final in the Men's B Division, where Geoff Douglas and Pete Jansen defeated fellow juniors Justin Novak and Clark Creasey 21-12, 21-13. Doubles and Jansen had cruised to a 21-10, 21-7 victory in the semifinals while Novak and Creasey prevailed 21-3, 21-17 to reach the final.

The tournament also served as a final tune-up for the Foresters before they compete at the United States Handball Association Collegiate National Championships at Missouri State University. The five-day event will begin on Wednesday, February 22.
