Maria Dugas Finishes Second at IHA Women's Singles Tourney

Lake Forest College hosted the Illinois Handball Association Women;s Singles Tournament over the weekend and Forester senior Maria Dugas was the event's runner-up.

All three of Dugas's opponents at the event were current or former Foresters. She defeated fellow senior Ann Szutenbach in the quarterfinals and 2008 graduate Carly Stickles in the semifinals. Dugas fell 21-8, 21-7 in the final to Megan Mehilos, who won the event for the 10th consecutive year, a streak that began while she was a junior at the College in November of 2002.

Szutenbach, junior Amalia DeSardi, and sophomore Samantha Zender were all victorious in the Open Division round of 16 before being eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Forester junior Camila Quinteros outlasted freshman Brooke Perkins 21-1, 10-21, 11-2 in the semifinals of the Novice Division but was defeated in the bracket's final. Freshman Gracie Mullins was also a semifinalist.

Sophomore Colleen Hosman won the Novice Consolation Division by coming from behind for a 16-21, 21-4, 11-6 victory over freshman Caitlin Shetterley.

Lake Forest's next event is next weekend's Circle City Tournament in Indianapolis.
