Isaac Acosta Wins A Division Title at I.H.A. Singles Tournament

The Forester men's handball team competed at the Illinois Handball Association Singles Tournament in Des Plaines over the weekend. Junior Isaac Acosta was Lake Forest's top finisher after claiming the A Division title.

Acosta won his opening round match before falling in the Open Division's round of 16. He then rattled off four consecutive victories in the A Division, including a 13-21, 21-2, 11-2 come-from-behind triumph in the final.

Freshman Eric Matiasek won back-to-back 11-9 tiebreakers to reach the A Division semifinals but was unable to earn a spot with Acosta in the final.

Seniors Riley Kloss and Dan Sterrett reached the A Division's quarterfinals before falling. Kloss's loss was to Acosta.

After winning three straight matches, including a tiebreaker victory in the B Division semifinals, junior Justin Novak was defeated 21-14, 19-21, 11-1 in the bracket's final.

Juniors Clark Creasey and Geoff Douglas each won once to reach the B Division quarterfinals while classmate Pete Jansen prevailed in four consecutive matches to win the C Division title.

Lake Forest's women will be in action next weekend when the College hosts the I.H.A. Women's Singles Tournament. The entire team will then travel to Indianapolis the following weekend for the Circle City Tournament.
