Lake Forest Hosts IHA Women's Singles

Lake Forest College was the site of the Illinois Handball Association Women's Singles Tournament over the weekend. Forester senior Sarah Brusig's championship in the A Bracket was one of the team's three divisional titles at the event.

Brusig reached the Open quarterfinals before falling to freshman Sandy Ng, who went on to finish second at the event to Megan Mehilos, a 2004 graduate of the College. Ng also defeated junior Maria Dugas in the semifinal round.

Senior Nicole Moser and junior Ann Szutenbach also advanced to the Open quarterfinals before being defeated by Mehilos and Dugas, respectively. Szutenbach also fell to Brusig in the A Division semifinals before knocking off Moser in the bracket's third-place match.

Other first round victories in the Open Division were recorded by freshman Nicole Stroner, sophomore Amalia DeSardi, and senior Sheila Connolly. DeSardi and Connolly were joined by freshman Samantha Zender and seniors Emma Swanson and Bianca Greene in the B Division, where Zender defeated DeSardi for first place and Swanson finished third.

Stroner went on to defeat fellow freshman Aimee Fadden in the final of the C Division. Freshman Camila Quinteros won the bracket's third-place match.

Lake Forest players will be back in action again next weekend at the Circle City Tournament in Indianapolis.
