Volleyball player Brittany Avonts was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after posting match-highs in kills twice over the weekend.
Avonts, a sophomore middle blocker, helped lead Lake Forest to a three-set victory over visiting Grinnell College last Friday night. She finished with 12 kills, just one fewer than all the Pioneers combined, and posted a .400 hitting percentage on the night.
The Foresters dropped a three-set decision to Cornell College at home on Saturday, despite 12 more kills from Avonts. She added three blocks, including a pair of solos, and hit .529 in the match.
Avonts leads the Midwest Conference and ranks eighth in the nation with a .384 hitting percentage on the season. The second-highest mark in the league in .292. The single-season program record in that category is .367 set by Mary Gerke in 1997.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
