Lake Forest Adds Two More Conference Wins to Tally

Lake Forest Adds Two More Conference Wins to Tally

The Lake Forest College softball team went 2-0 against Knox College on Saturday, adding two more Conference wins to their record.

In their 6-3 win in the opener against the Prairie Fire, the Foresters scored all six of their runs in the first three innings. Senior Josie Klein got the hitting started for the Foresters with a single in the top of the first. Hers was the first of three runs scored in quick succession when junior Carlie Mertz drove her home in the next at bat with a double. Mertz didn't stay on second for long; senior Hailey Boylan batted her in with a triple. Then, Boylan reached home off a single by freshman Kelly Collins

Lake Forest kept the hitting alive with two more runs scored in the top of the second and then one more in the top of the third. They were able to hold Knox scoreless until the top of the fifth. All three of the opponents runs were scored then, and the Foresters held on for the win. Klein earned the win and pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits and one walk.

The second game of the day was played only through six innings after the Foresters put up seven runs in the top of the sixth. Just as in the first game of the doubleheader, the Foresters took the lead early and were up 10-6 after five innings. After singles from Collins and Boylan, freshman Cheyenne Pellettiere hit a double and drove both runners. Freshman Kaylee Purgatorio hit a sacrifice fly to center field, and Pellettiere scored. After scoring two more runs, the Foresters loaded the bases. Collins came up to bat and hit a single, driving in runs 14 and 15 for the Foresters and sealing the win for Lake Forest.

Forester junior Kristen Calhoun pitched a complete game and earned her first win of the season. She struck out four, walked three, and allowed seven hits.

Lake Forest's record now sits at 12-10; they are 4-0 in Conference. Knox falls to 1-18, and they are 0-6 in Conference.

The Foresters travel to Jacksonville, Illinois tomorrow, April 10, to face Illinois College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
