All five players on the Lake Forest College men's golf team shot in the 70s and the Foresters finished in a tie for ninth place at the 21-team Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament over the weekend.
The event was hosted by Carthage College and held at the 6,599-yard, par-71 course at Randall Oaks Golf Club in West Dundee, Illinois.
The Foresters were led by freshman Caleb Dzierzynski, who tied for 10th place out of the 107 players who played both Friday and Saturday. After carding a 77 in his first collegiate round, he fired a 74 on day two for a 36-hole score of 151. Dzierzynski birdied three holes on Friday and two, including the 600-yard, par-5 ninth, on Saturday.
Senior Ricky Schmidt matched Dzierzynski with a 77 in round one and closed with a 78, tying him with Lake Forest junior Jacob Krugman and four other players for 25th place with a 155. Krugman's 76 on day two was three shots lower than his first round score.
Seniors Elijah Collins and Parker Hill were also better on Friday than Saturday. Collins followed up an 85 with a 78 and Hill's 79 in round two was a 10-shot improvement.
The Foresters were tied-for-12th after posting a score of 318 on Friday but climbed three places in the standings with a 306 on Saturday. Illinois Wesleyan University won the event with a two-day score of 575, 30 strokes better than runner-up Carthage.
Lake Forest will be in action again next weekend at the Midwest Region Fall Classic, which will be played on Friday and Saturday at Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena, Illinois.
