Lake Forest College Head Softball Coach Joe Kinsella and Head Men's Golf Coach Brian Bruha were each named Midwest Conference Coach of the Year over the weekend after leading their teams to MWC Tournament titles.
The softball team captured its third regular season conference championship in the last four seasons with a 14-4 record in MWC play this season. The Foresters improved to 24-15 overall with three victories over the weekend as they won the four-team MWC Tournament for the fourth time in the last six years and the 10th time in program history. Two players on the team were announced as First Team All-MWC selections at the conclusion of the tournament and three others earned Second Team accolades. Kinsella's fourth career MWC Coach of the Year honor was announced on Sunday. He was voted MWC South Division Coach of the Year in 2009, 2010, and 2014.
The Forester men's golf team was in third place and trailed St. Norbert College by five strokes going into Saturday's third and final round at the 2019 MWC Championship Tournament. With a 298 to close out the event, Lake Forest posted the lowest 18-hole score in the history of the tournament and won by six shots. It was the Foresters' second straight conference title and they matched the league's best three-day MWC Tournament score of 918, which they established a year ago. Bruha was voted MWC Coach of the Year for the second time in his career after the tournament.
Kinsella and Bruha join Head Women's Tennis Coach Raquel Vescovi as Lake Forest's MWC Coaches of the Year in 2018-19. It was the Forester Athletic Department's second straight year with three such awards.
