Junior Ricky Schmidt was the Foresters' top player as the Lake Forest College men's golf team placed ninth out of 17 teams at Millikin University's Take Back the Night Challenge over the weekend.
Sunday's second round was played on the 6,375-yard, par-71 course at South Side Country Club in Decatur, Illinois and Schmidt fired a 75. His round included six birdies and moved him up 13 spots into a tie for 13th place in the 96-player field. Schmidt had carded a 78 on Saturday at Red Tail Run Golf Course, which is a par-72 and spans 7,193 yards. His two-day total of 153 was the best on the team by five strokes.
Lake Forest's best opening round came from senior Davis DeKorte, whose round of 76 included two birdies and 10 pars. He added two more birdies while posting a score of 82 on Sunday and tied for 44th overall. Joining him was sophomore Jacob Krugman, who followed up an 80 on Saturday with a 78 on day two. He had a birdie in each round and 20 pars on the weekend.
After completing play on Saturday in a tie for 71st place with a score of 84, Forester junior Elijah Collins was eight shots better on Sunday in a round that included a pair of birdies and 11 pars, including seven in a row on the back nine. He finished tied-for-50th with a 36-hole score of 160.
Rounding out the team's lineup was sophomore Austin Aksoy, whose 86 on Sunday was five strokes better than his opening round.
Illinois Wesleyan University was the team champion at just three strokes over par for the weekend. Lake Forest's two-day score of 629 placed them above and below eight teams in the standings.
The Foresters' next competition will be the Carthage Spring Invitational on Tuesday. The event will be held at Kenosha Country Club in Somers, Wisconsin, and will begin at 9:00 a.m.
