Forester freshman Silvia Kulbokas went 4-0 on the day as the Lake Forest College women's tennis team won 9-0 at Ripon College before falling 6-3 at St. Norbert College on Saturday.
Kulbokas and sophomore Allison Watts were the first to finish in doubles at Ripon. They defeated the Red Hawks' #2 tandem 8-1 while the Foresters' #1 team of freshman Leeza Bodnar and senior Lucia Stumbras won 8-3, as did freshman Sara Grosse and Samantha Russell at #3.
Kulbokas and Russell prevailed by the same 6-1, 6-0 score at #4 and #6 singles, respectively, to clinch the match for the visitors. Stumbras then finished off a 6-0, 6-3 triumph at #3 and Grosse won 6-4, 6-0 at #5. Watts came out on top of a 6-1, 6-3 decision at #2 and Bodnar posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the top spot in the lineup to complete the sweep.
Kulbokas and Watts were also victorious at St. Norbert, edging out the Green Knights 9-8 (7-4). The home team won at the other two doubles positions and led 2-1 going into singles play.
After St. Norbert victories at the bottom two spots in the lineup made the score 4-1, the Foresters came back with a 6-3, 6-4 win by Stumbras at #3 and a 6-4, 6-3 triumph by Kulbokas at #4. The Green Knights clinched the team victory by earning the point at #2 and closed out the contest with a three-set win at #1.
The split leaves the Foresters with a 4-3 overall record and 2-3 mark in Midwest Conference play this season. Ripon fell to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the league while St. Norbert improved to 6-3 overall and 6-0 in the MWC.
Lake Forest will continue conference play Sunday morning with a crucial contest at Lawrence University. The match will begin at 9:00.
