The Lake Forest College women's basketball team was defeated 89-62 by visiting Ripon College Tuesday night.
The Red Hawks took the lead for good with a 20-4 run in the first quarter. The Foresters scored the final seven points of the period and trailed 22-14 after 10 minutes of play.
Six straight points by Ripon to begin the second made it a 14-point game but the home team battled back again and faced a deficit of just six points after a layup by sophomore guard Maurissa Edwards with 3:41 to play in the half. The Red Hawks, however, scored eight of the game's next nine points and led 40-27 at halftime.
The Foresters got no closer than 12 points in the third quarter, which ended with the visitors ahead 60-40. The margin grew to as many as 29 points late in the contest.
Senior guard Ely DoBrodt led Lake Forest with a career-high 11 points and junior guard Katie Neher also reached double figures with 10. Edwards accounted for five of the team's 16 steals in the contest.
Lake Forest shot nearly 42 percent from the field but Ripon was at 53.3 percent. The Red Hawks also outscored the Foresters 24-15 on three-pointers and 17-11 at the foul line. The visitors' edge on the boards was 41-27 and they forced 25 Lake Forest turnovers while committing 20.
The Foresters are now 3-8 overall and 1-4 in Midwest Conference play this season. Ripon evened its overall record at 8-8 and remained undefeated in the MWC after seven league games.
Lake Forest will travel to Beloit College on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
