Women's basketball player Kelsey Burton was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after leading her team with 13 points and a dozen rebounds in Tuesday night's season opener against Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Burton, a senior guard, was honored on the court before the contest for surpassing the 1,000-point mark late last season. She is just the third women's basketball player in school history to reach that milestone as a junior.
Tuesday's double-double was her 18th as a Forester and she moved past Lisa Nassin (2006-10) into fifth place in program history with 1,095 career points. In addition to reaching double figures in points and rebounds, Burton led Lake Forest with three assists and a pair of steals on the night. Her career totals in all four categories rank among the top 10 in team history.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
