Women's basketball player Kelsey Schmitt was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after helping lead her team to a comeback victory at Monmouth College on Saturday.
Schmitt, a sophomore guard, scored a career-high 26 points in the contest. Lake Forest trailed by 14 points late in the third quarter but came back to win 70-67. Schmitt scored nine of her points in the final period, including two on a go-ahead basket with just 21 seconds remaining. She also had five rebounds, a steal, and a blocked shot in the contest.
With 10.5 points per game this season, Schmitt ranks third on the team in scoring. She is also second on the squad and 12th in the Midwest Conference with 12.4 points per game during the Foresters' 13 league contests.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Schmitt also earned the award on December 3.
