Lake Forest College women's basketball player Kelsey Schmitt was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week after scoring a career-high 26 points on Saturday.
Schmitt, a sophomore guard, scored nine of her points in the fourth quarter, including two on a go-ahead basket with just 21 seconds remaining, in a 70-67 triumph at Monmouth College. The Foresters trailed by 14 points late in the third quarter before rallying for the win. Schmitt added five rebounds, a steal, and a blocked shot in the contest.
Lake Forest also hosted and defeated Lawrence University 91-50 on Tuesday and Schmitt finished the game with nine points in 19 minutes of play. She also had a pair of steals on the night.
Schmitt ranks third on the team and 19th in the conference with 11.1 points per game this season. She is also among the league leaders in three-point shooting and minutes played.
