The Forester women's basketball team cruised to an 87-38 non-conference victory at Illinois Institute of Technology Tuesday night. Freshman forward Bridget Kelley led Lake Forest with a career-high 14 points and nine rebounds in the contest.
Kelley, who was one of six Foresters with at least nine points in the game, shot 7-for-9 from the field and grabbed five boards at the offensive end of the court.
Junior guard Michelle Ricolcol was next on the team with a dozen points on 4-for-6 shooting from three-point range. Ricolcol has now scored at least 12 points in each of the last eight games after averaging just 4.1 points in the team's first 11 contests.
Freshman guard Kelsey Schmitt and senior guard Abby Wiedman also reached double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively, and they combined to shoot 8-for-12 from the floor and 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. Schmitt also pulled down eight rebounds and led all players in the game with a career-high six assists.
Freshman guards Samantha Ney and Kara Norvet combined to make five more three-pointers and added nine points apiece for the visitors.
Lake Forest connected on a program record 15 three-point field goals on the night, three more than the previous mark set in February of 2012. The Foresters also set season-highs by shooting 52.4 percent from the field in the game and dishing out 23 assists. In addition, the visitors had a commanding 53-30 edge in rebounds.
Runs of 8-0 and 14-0 in the game-s first six minutes gave Lake Forest a 22-2 lead. The Foresters led by as many as 32 in the first half and were ahead 48-19 at the break. The margin continued to grow in the second half.
The Foresters climbed above the .500 mark at 10-9 on the year while Illinois Tech remained winless in 20 contests.
Lake Forest will resume Midwest Conference play and put the team's longest winning streak since 2009-10 on the line Saturday afternoon at 3:00 against visiting Knox College.
