The Lake Forest College swim teams hosted and defeated the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon. The final score in the women's competition was 100-95 and the Forester men prevailed 103-76. Senior Loren Dutca and freshman Matthew Hawkins each won a pair of individual events.
Dutca recorded victorious times of 2:39.96 in the 200m-IM and 2:35.23 in the 200m-backstroke and also led off the Foresters' meet-opening 400m-medley relay, which won with a time of 4:56.02. Hawkins touched the wall first in the 800m-freestyle in 9:30.72 and 400m-freestyle in 4:39.22. Fellow freshman Sean Flanagan was less than a second behind Hawkins in both races.
Lake Forest swept the meet's four relay races. Dutca was joined by sophomores Peyton Sukenic and Arlyn Bateman and freshman Lauren Dalecky on the winning 400m-medley team. Freshman Emily Bowens, sophomores Alex Dunn and Brooke Rowley, and senior Sarah Stoklosa took the 400m-freestyle in 4:22.26. On the men's side, freshmen Orion Huey, Ryan Keast, and Sam Freedberg and junior Mitchell Reiner finished the 400m-medley relay in 4:09.66, just 0.27 seconds ahead of a quartet of their teammates. Huey followed senior Zachary Wenner, junior Brock Mone, and freshman Viirgil Thomas on the 400m-freestyle relay, which prevailed by 0.54 seconds with a time of 3:44.23.
Dunn (2:18.06) and Wenner (1:58.99) swept the 200m-freestyle, as did Dalecky (29.32 seconds) and freshman Travis Johnson (25.33) in the 50m-freestlye. Sophomore Kristofer Korth followed up Dutca's victory in the women's 200m-IM with one of his own in the men's race, finishing in 2:14.98.
Forester swimming & diving alumni were recognized on the pool deck during the first break. A dozen swimmers and divers from the last 20 graduating classes were in attendance.
Bateman (2:40.18) and Freedberg (2:13.70) won their respective 200m-butterfly races and Bowens (1:04.11) and Reiner (56.05) placed first in the 100m-freestyle. After Dutca's victory in the 200m-backstroke, Thomas made it another Forester sweep by winning the men's race in 2:20.88. The second break in the meet occurred after Hawkins' triumph in the 400m-freestyle.
Freshman Christopher Martinez made it 9-for-9 in individual events for the Forester men by winning the 200m-breaststroke in 2:37.98.
The diving events were not held because the Lake Forest divers were attending the UIC Diving Invitational.
The Forester men are now 6-1 and the women 4-3 in dual meets this season. Both squads will close out the regular season with a home meet against Illinois Institute of Technology next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
