The Lake Forest College men's swimming team posted its first-ever win and the Forester women finished fourth at the Illinois-Michigan Quadrangular on Saturday. Lake Forest sophomore Kristofer Korth and senior Garr Punnett posted victories in the 1000-freestyle and 200-butterfly, respectively.
Korth finished the 1000-free in 10:07.57, more than two-and-a-half seconds ahead of the runner-up. Freshman James Haney was third in 10:13.00. The women's 1000-free preceded the men's race and featured a second-place finish and time of 11:05.89 by senior Loren Dutca.
The next event was the 200-freestyle and senior Zachary Wenner placed third in 1:46.57.
A third-place finish was also turned in by sophomore Alex Dunn in the women's 50-freestyle. She completed in the shortest race at the meet in 25.55 seconds.
The 200-IM included another runner-up performance by a Forester when freshman Sam Freedberg's time of 2:00.66 was just a fourth-of-a-second behind the winner.
Lake Forest had four of the top five finishers in the 200-butterfly, led by Punnett and his winning time of 1:57.43. Sophomore Emile Siroit was third in 2:00.69, junior Marck Wilcoxen finished fourth in 2:01.35, and senior David Albion placed fifth in 2:03.37.
Wenner recorded his second third-place finish of the day in the 100-freestlye, completing the race in 48.44 seconds.
The next top-five placing for the Forester women came in the 200-backstroke, where freshman Emily Bowens was fifth in 2:18.37. Freshman Orion Huey was third in the men's race in 2:01.98.
Dutca's other individual event was the 500-freestlye, where she finished third in 5:26.06. Haney's 4:53.64 was also good for third place in the men's race.
The final individual event of the day was the 200-breaststroke, where Korth came within four-tenths of a second of claiming his second victory of the meet. His runner-up time was 2:11.12.
The Lake Forest men finished with 500 points. Hope College was second with 453.5, Kalamazoo College third with 439.5, and Wheaton fourth with 434.
Wheaton won the women's competition with 561 points and Hope was second with 474. Kalamazoo tallied 453 and the Foresters had 256.
Lake Forest's next meet will be a double-duel against Carroll University and host Lawrence University next Saturday.
