The Lake Forest College swimming & diving teams fell to visiting Carthage College on Saturday. The Lady Reds edged out the Foresters 111-93 and the Red Men won 120-75. Junior Becky Shaak won a pair of individual events for the home team.
Shaak's victories came in the two distance events and she finished more than four seconds ahead of the runner-up in both races. She posted a time of 9:35.44 in the 800m-freestyle and 4:40.88 in the 400m-freestyle.
Other victories for the Forester women included back-to-back wins by freshman Kim Newell in the 100m-freestyle (1:03.41) and classmate Kelsie Miller in the 100m-backstroke (1:10.62). Junior Kelsey Hoeper, sophomore Loren Dutca, senior Amy Finn, and sophomore Angelica Compton also prevailed in the 400m-freestyle relay with a time of 4:14.72.
Lake Forest sophomore Garr Punnett, junior Alex Marks, freshman Kevin Barbrick, and sophomore Zachary Wenner started the meet with a winning time of 1:51.14 in the 200m-medley relay. Barbrick later won the 200m-individual medley in 2:18.69 and Marks touched the wall first in the 100m-breaststroke in 1:09.30.
The Foresters will compete for the third consecutive Saturday at the Monmouth Invitational on November 12. The meet will begin at 11:00 a.m.
