Junior Shaye Gauthier tossed four-and-a-third innings of scoreless relief and freshman Abby Ponder scored three times on Monday as Lake Forest defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College 8-4. The Foresters also fell 8-0 in five innings to Millikin University in Clermont, Florida.
Ponder was part of each of the Foresters' three rallies in the game. She reached on an error and eventually scored on a base hit by senior Sydney Wyatt during a three-run second. Trailing 4-3, Lake Forest got three more in the fourth, Ponder and sophomore Hailey Boylan on an error and senior Haylee Sherlund on a double by freshman melissa Manzo. Sherlund doubled in Ponder in the sixth and then scored herself on a single by Gauthier.
Freshman Brie Gauthier had two of the Foresters' eight hits in the contest, including her second triple of the year.
The Warriors racked up nine base hits but stranded nine baserunners.
Wyatt, Boylan, and senior Riley Frisbie accounted for Lake Forest's three base hits against Millikin.
The Big Blue plated a run in the bottom of the first inning and another in the third before exploding for six in the fourth.
The Foresters are now 5-3 on the season while Wisconsin Lutheran fell to 1-3 and Millikin improved to 6-3.
Lake Forest will take on Lakeland University Tuesday morning at 9:00 (ET) and Ohio Wesleyan University at 1:30 p.m. (ET) Both games will be played at Hancock Recreational Complex in Clermont, Florida.
