Junior Dan Pivonka won at the top of the doubles and singles lineups but the Lake Forest College men's tennis team was defeated 5-4 by visiting Calvin College on Saturday at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.
Pivonka and senior Ellis Lora-Arceo defeated the Knights' #1 doubles team 8-6 to avoid a Calvin sweep of the first round of matches. The visitors had already won 8-4 at #2 and 9-7 at #3.
The Knights earned another team point at #6 singles but freshman Nick Zazove took both sets 6-3 at #3 to pull the Foresters back to within a point. Calvin, however, posted victories at #3 and #4 to clinch the match. Lake Forest junior Nick Rehm defeated his #5 singles counterpart 6-3, 6-4 and Pivonka closed out the contest with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at #1.
The Foresters are now 3-3 in dual matches this season while Calvin remains perfect at 3-0.
Lake Forest will travel to Elite Sports Club in Brookfield, Wisconsin, to take on Wisconsin Lutheran College Sunday at noon.
