The Lake Forest College men's soccer team defeated visiting Aurora University, the seventh-ranked team in the Central Region, 2-1 on Saturday. Forester freshman Mahir Mameledzija scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute.
The home team out-shot the Spartans 5-4 and put three shots on goal to Aurora's one in a scoreless first half.
Aurora attempted 14 shots and put five on goal in the second half while two of the Foresters' three shots in the period found the back of the net.
The first goal of the contest was scored by Lake Forest freshman Jordon Hartman at the 61:03 mark. His third score of the season was assisted by sophomore Garrett Donnelly.
Forester senior goalkeeper Tom Biesiada kept the Spartans off the scoreboard until the visitors tied the game at the 80:05 mark. He finished the contest with five saves, including four in the second half, and lowered his goals against average on the season to 1.02.
Freshman Steven Johnson set up Mameledzija's game-winner at 82:20. It was Mameledzija's team-high sixth goal of the season and he also leads the squad with 18 points.
Lake Forest raised its record to 5-4-0 while Aurora fell to 6-4-1. The Foresters will be in action again on Monday when they host another non-conference game against Rockford College at 4:30 p.m.
