The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 6-4 at home by Concordia University Wisconsin Tuesday night. Junior forward Bobby Barrett and junior defenseman Andrew Strein each had a goal and an assist for the Foresters.
Barrett's team-high ninth goal of the season gave the Foresters a 2-1 lead at the 13:13 mark of the first period and Stein's fourth score of the year put the home team ahead 4-3 with a second to play in the second.
Concordia Wisconsin, however, tied the score on a power play goal midway through the third period and took the lead on another power play score with six-and-a-half minutes remaining. The Falcons added an insurance goal with 4:52 to play and held on for the victory.
Both teams had three power play goals in the contest. Freshman Jack Lewis netted the first for Lake Forest at the 4:04 mark of the opening period, tying the score at one. Junior defenseman Ben Certo and junior forward Jason McAloon assisted on the goal. Stein and senior forward Mike Violette set up Barrett's go-ahead score but the Falcons tied the game with 46 seconds to play in the period and the score was 2-2 after 20 minutes of play.
Concordia Wisconsin regained the lead on a power play goal two minutes and 34 seconds into the second stanza and held a 3-2 lead until Forester junior forward Luke Swardenski converted a power play opportunity with just 11 seconds remaining in the period. Barrett and Certo assisted on Swardenski's second score of the season. McAloon assisted Stein just 10 seconds later, giving the home team a 4-3 lead at the second intermission.
Lake Forest out-shot their guests 19-12 in the game's first 20 minutes and 17-10 in the second period. The Falcons had a 14-11 edge in shots on goal in the final period.
The loss drops the Foresters' overall record to 5-8-0 and their Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 4-5-0. Concordia Wisconsin is now 6-4-3 overall and 5-2-2 in the league.
Lake Forest will travel to Minnesota this weekend, where they will face off against Gustavus Adolphus College at 7:00 Friday night and St. Olaf College Saturday afternoon at 2:30.
