The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 5-1 at the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday. Senior forward Mike Violette accounted for the Foresters only goal against the team ranked 10th in the country by USCHO.com.
The power play goal by Violette cut the Saints' lead to 4-1 with 3:03 to play in the second period. His third score of the season was assisted by junior defensemen Ben Certo and Andrew Stein.
St. Scholastica had scored a pair of goals just 73 seconds apart early in the first period and added a couple of short-handed scores in the second. The Saints tacked on an additional insurance goal at 1:55 in the third.
Lake Forest had a 12-7 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period and a 12-9 edge in the second. Both teams put six shots on target in the final 20 minutes.
The Foresters fell to 5-6-0 overall this season and to 4-4-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. St. Scholastica is now 8-1-2 overall and 6-0-2 in the league.
Lake Forest will not play again until it hosts the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a non-conference game on Saturday, January 4, at 7:00 p.m.
