The Lake Forest College women's tennis team raised its single-season program record victory total to 17 on Thursday by defeating the College of Wooster 7-2. Sophomore Sarah Paulson won twice on the day and finished the Foresters' Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina, with a 9-1 record in singles and doubles combined.
The match began with singles play and Paulson was the first to finish, defeating the top player from Wooster 6-0, 6-3. Freshman Lexi Chionis posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory at #3 and sophomore Christi Valicenti gave Lake Forest a sweep of the top half of the lineup with a 3-6, 6-2, (10-4) triumph at #2. Senior Elina Shapiro recorded her fifth win in as many spring singles matches, a 7-6 (8-6), 1-6, (10-4) decision at #4. Fellow senior Lucy-George Cooper clinched the match for the Foresters by prevailing 6-4, 6-2 at #5.
Wooster earned the point at #6 singles and opened doubles play with a victory at #1. Paulson and Cooper won 8-3 at #2 to finish the trip a perfect 5-0 in doubles play while Shapiro and sophomore Emily Rabin defeated the Fighting Scots' #3 duo 8-1 to close out the match.
Lake Forest is now 17-1 on the year while Wooster fell to 3-4.
The Foresters have four more matches on their 2013-14 schedule, beginning on Friday, March 28, against visiting Augustana College. The contest will begin at 4:00 p.m.
